Occupational Therapy
Intermountain’s Occupational Therapy (OT) team works with your child or teen to improve everyday functioning skills. Some of those skills can include fine motor (hand-eye coordination), ocular motor skills (eye movements), whole body movements, sensory processing, and activities of daily living (such as dressing or hygiene). At Intermountain our therapists also have extensive training on supporting the development of emotional regulation and social skills. We operate through movement and play to integrate the brain, body and self for optimal performance and participation while meeting your child where they are. OT works to improve independence as well as educate children and their families on how to work through difficult situations at home, school, and the community. Our team has experience working with children with a variety of diagnosis and specializes in those with mental health diagnosis.

Speech and Language Pathology
Our Speech and Language pathologists work with children to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social, communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Our speech therapist can address issues such as a child’s understanding and processing of verbally presented information such as following directions or remembering details from a story. Additionally, speech can address a child’s ability to use language to communicate a variety of different functions (requesting, asking questions, answering questions, protesting, commenting/labeling).
Speech and language evaluations include a thorough review of medical history, parent interview and input, standardized assessments, informal assessments, and observation. Treatment sessions often take place weekly in a 1:1 setting with use of motivating and personally tailored activities to keep children motivated. Parent education and home program tasks are prioritized to promote generalization of skills across all environments. Typical diagnosis or needs that are addressed by speech therapist include: augmentative/alternative communication, apraxia, Autism, developmental disorders, early intervention, late talkers, reading comprehension, and social communication disorders.
